Former First Lady of Estonia Evelin Ilves opened her first home-restaurant at the island of Hiiumaa in June, making true her dream about going deeper into healthy and ecological food, she was into a few years already.
Evelin’s restaurant is located in the former captain villa in Nasvaranna – the house, which owners went abroad for a few years and rented it out.

So, no more glamour and fancy outfits. Evelin is happy with her new partner Siim Rikken in her new country house and living a totally different life – down to earth, full of joy and happiness.
All the dishes in Evelin’s restaurant are made from the local ingredients – meat and veggies are coming from local farmers and fish from the local fishermen. This is why food is always fresh and delicious. A new home-restaurant is intimate and does not serve masses – the company of 12 people or less is optimal. And as Siim is a musician and a squiffer-player, then it might happen, that you would enjoy your meal with the live folk music background.
Evelin compares the island of Hiiumaa with Bali – the place, a lot of Estonians are travelling to find their inner peace and harmony. Hiiumaa is also a very special place – magical and spirited, where time flows differently or maybe even stands still sometimes. Angels and Gods are close – there is a reason Hiiumaa is also called the Island of Angels. Also this house has a very special aura – whoever visits it, forgets all the buzz of the outside world and civilisation completely and feels totally relaxed instantly.
So, when going to Hiiumaa – Evelin’s family restaurant is definitely a place worth to visit. Restaurant is called ROOG, which has three meanings in Estonian – ROOG (dish in English), pilliROOG (reed in English) and selgROOG (backbone in English).
